Ag in the Classroom

Baylor CFB sponsored its annual Ag in the Classroom event for Seymour fourth graders at the Baylor County Ag Pavilion on April 29.  The focus of the event was to teach students about the importance of agriculture in their lives and about safety.  The fourth graders rotated though a series of ag-related stations including a cotton ginning presentation by TFB
Field Rep Michael Wied and a byproducts presentation by TFB Field Rep Bryce Moore with the TFB Mobile Learning Barn.  Ryder Coughlin and Michelle Auyer with NRCS, Wilbarger County, taught water conservation with a rainfall simulator and gave a presentation on how much of the earth’s soil is available for farming. Jim Stout demonstrated their antique hay baler and Quality Implement provided the students with a ride on a new John Deere tractor. Kaylie Walker brought her red angus heifer and promoted 4-H and FFA involvement.

The students then watched a safety demonstration around farm equipment.  A “crash dummy” served as the victim of a tractor PTO accident.  BK-Tri-County Electric then gave their always-exciting presentation on power line and electricity safety. Game Warden Josh McCrary talked to the students about safety while boating. The fourth graders then enjoyed a hot dog lunch provided by Quality Implement of Seymour.  Also assisting with the activities were Farm Bureau directors Chris Orsak, James Loran, Mark Hertel, Herman Dentler, Jim Tucker, Agency Manager John Parum and Office Secretary Melissa Hays.
