Small Farm and Ranch Management

Texas is experiencing a change in land ownership. Many of the new landowners have ties to the land through parents or grandparents, but have had careers in business, industry or other non-agricultural pursuits. Some of these new landowners have no ties to the land but have a desire for farm or ranch ownership. These new landowners purchase rural land without the benefit of the basic understanding of farm or ranch management. Therefore, these new operators often don't know where to seek managerial and technical assistance.TFB has defined a small farm or ranch as "a property of one hundred (100) acres or less; on which the owner/operator has been an active producer of commodities for five (5) years or less." The TFB Small Farm & Ranch Management committee will seek to identify these new landowners and their problems.

Texas Farm Bureau keeps you informed of what's
going on in the agricultural world.
