The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, formerly the American Dietetic Association, is encouraging Americans to “Get your Plate in Shape” during National Nutrition Month in March. The campaign is an annual push to encourage healthier eating and lifestyle choices in America.
“Each year, National Nutrition Month provides us the opportunity to remind consumers of the basics of healthy eating. By focusing this year’s theme on the new MyPlate, we can help people make the simple changes to their daily eating plans that will benefit them for a lifetime,” said Academy President and registered dietitian Sylvia Escott-Stump.
National Nutrition Month became an official national event in 1980. This year, the theme revolves around the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) MyPlate nutrition guide, which was introduced in June 2011.
