The Texas AgriLife Extension Service office in Real County will present a livestock workshop for local ranchers from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. May 23 at the Frio Pecan Farm, 144 East Ranch Road in Leakey.
“Dr. Rick Machen, professor and AgriLife Extension livestock specialist, will be talking about livestock stocking rates and restocking decisions,” said Travis Helm, Texas AgriLife Extension agent for Real County. “Dr. Machen will also cover animal health management and pest management during the current conditions.”
Presenters also will discuss tax implications of herd liquidation and feeding solutions for livestock. Livestock workshop participants will qualify for three continuing education units from the Texas Department of Agriculture: two in General and one in Integrated Pest Management.
