Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-Minn.) is calling on Washington lawmakers to bury the hatchet and pass the 2012 Farm Bill by the end of the year.
She and Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) authored an editorial that calls for unity and highlights the achievements of the Senate Agriculture Committee.
“When our nation faces one of its most difficult budget situations ever, farmers know that they have to cut their fair share, and multiple commodity programs are indefensible,” the editorial stated. “Forty-five senators from both parties have written to the Senate leaders, urging them to bring this bill to the floor. It is time for everyone in Washington to set aside their differences, come sit at the table and pass this long-overdue reform.”
