Most Americans are confident in the safety of their food, according to the International Food Information Council’s 2012 Food and Health Survey.
According to an article in Feedstuffs, 78 percent of Americans said they are "somewhat confident" or "very confident" in the safety of their food. That number is much higher than the 50 percent who responded that way in a 2011 survey.
Some 85 percent of Americans said they think about food safety "a little" to "a lot," and most said their risk of coming down with foodborne illness is low, with 57 percent saying it is extremely low.
The council reported that 61 percent of Americans believe imported food is less safe than food grown and produced in the United States.
