The U.S. Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications from people who are interested in serving on the agency’s Beginning Farmers and Ranchers Committee.
According to the USDA, the group advises Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack on matters broadly affecting new farmers and ranchers across the nation. They also take into consideration the goal and recommendations set forth by prior committees.
The USDA is soliciting nominations from: farmers and ranchers, agricultural agencies, academic institutions, commercial banking entities, trade associations and non-profit groups.
Potential members may be nominated by someone else or nominate themselves. Nomination packets should include a form obtained from USDA.gov and a cover letter or resume detailing the nominee’s background and experience.
Nomination packets are due to the USDA by Jan. 16.
