One of the world’s biggest search engines is making an investment in alternative energy right here in the Lone Star State. Google, a Fortune 500 company, announced Wednesday that it is purchasing a $200 million stake in the Spinning Spur Wind Project in Oldham County in West Texas.
According to the article in CNN Money, the 161 megawatt, 70 turbine project can generate enough energy to power over 60,000 homes.
Spinning Spur is the 10th green energy investment Google has made since 2010. To date, Google has invested in five solar projects and five wind projects, with the investment in West Texas being the second most expensive.
