Training to focus on improving water quality in Brazos River Basin

Anyone who is interested in improving water quality in the Brazos River Basin is invited to attend a Texas Watershed Steward workshop from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 24 at the Texas Small Farmers and Ranchers Technology Center in Navasota.

The workshop will include discussion on how water quality in the Brazos River Basin is managed and will focus on water quality issues in the basin including current efforts to improve and protect it.

The Brazos River Basin runs from New Mexico to the Gulf of Mexico and includes the Navasota River watershed, which drains into the Brazos River.

According to officials, the Navasota River below Lake Limestone all the way to its confluence with the Brazos River is on the state's list of impaired waters for elevated levels of bacteria.

All workshop attendees will also receive a copy of the Texas Watershed Steward Handbook and a certificate of completion. Continuing education units are available upon completion of the course.

The training is free, but participants are encouraged to register prior to the event at
http://tws.tamu.edu.

The event is sponsored by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and is part of the Texas Watershed Steward program.
