Texans who would like their voice heard on a proposal to add the Lesser Prairie Chicken to the threatened species list have one more chance to address the Fish and Wildlife Service. The final of four public hearings on the issue will be held in Roswell Tuesday.
Hundreds of farmers, residents and others attended the third public hearing on the issue this week in Lubbock.
MyFoxLubbock.com reports that the proposal has ranchers, farmers and energy companies feeling threatened. Approximately 250 people attended the third public hearing including farmers, representatives from the Texas Farm Bureau, Congressmen Randy Neugebauer and Mike Conaway and more.
One of the men who spoke at the hearing urged everyone involved to work together to come up with a plan to increase the grouse’s habitat without imposing regulations.
Written comments on the proposal will be accepted by the Fish and Wildlife Service through March 11.
